The Time Project

The Time Project began in the fall of 2009 when eleven artists, all women between the ages of 52 and 75, each committed themselves to individually create one piece of art a week, for a year, around the concept of time. They also agreed to meet once a month to share their work. The purpose of the Time Project was, and is, to provide and protect space for consistently working experimentally and deeper, and to bring together a community of established and seasoned artists to share their insights, perceptions, and process. Ten out of the eleven artists signed on again for the 2011 Time Project and two new members joined.

2009-2010, the first year of The Time Project, I wanted to explore the connection between the written word and a visual image, and decided to incorporate letters that were addressed to family members and others, some living, some not, into pieces of art. These letters were written on small prayer flags, wrapped around small dowels and twigs, and hidden inside "coats" and "envelopes." For the 2011 Time Project, I am focusing on: Memory - Strength and Fragility. This is our journey.
